Veterans Organization Tax Exemption Bill Signed

Jason E. Johns - 4/10/2018

Governor Scott Walker signed the AB-402 Bill into law at 9:00 AM on April 3rd in his office surrounded by the Department of Wisconsin American Legion and VFW officers. AB 402, also known as "Veterans Organization Tax Exemption" exempts from taxation, tangible personal property and otherwise taxable services sold to a state veterans service organization.

This bill was authored and spearheaded by State Representative Andre Jacque and State Senator Devin LeMayhieu. The Department VFW were represented by Sr. Vice Commander Gundel Metz and Legislative Committee Chair Michael Furgal. Department Adjutant, Amber Nikolai and Legislative Committee Chairman Paul Fisk represented the American Legion.
This bill creates a better fiscal environment at the post-level by reducing the tax burden for purchases on such things as contractor services for building and property improvements.

For the VFW, this tax exemption will be especially beneficial for individual Posts to continue community service and benevolence for veterans, military and their families. The Department Commander, John Schultz of Milwaukee, thanks all those involved in writing, passing and ensuring this bill reached the Governor's desk in such an expedient manner.
